Making a Miko Outfit part 2 of 3

Okay. On to part 2 of 3 in our little project. In this part I will be making the bottom part of the Miko Outfit. So lets get started

Lets start by putting one of the red 15 by 14 inches and one of the white 15 by 14 together. Good side to good side. And do this to the other red  and white pieces.

Next we are going to sew 3 side together. It should look like a pillow case. Do this to the other one as well.

Okay. Now it is time to turn them both in side out. [ bad side to bad side ] Once turned in side out you need to press them with an iron.

Now that we have them turned and pressed, put the red side to the red side. Make sure that your open ends are at the top.

Next with the open end at the top. Find the center of your fabric ( that is the black number tape) and measure from the top down to 5 inches and place a mark. ( that is the red number tape)

Next you will need to find something that is 3 inches in diameter or something close to that. I found a roll of tape that the in side of it was 3 inches.
(note: you can use something that is a bite bigger but I would not go with anything smaller as it may not fit the doll. Bigger is OK but small is bad.) Put the 3 inch circle on your mark as shone in the picture.

Now draw two line from the top (open end) to the edge of the circle. Once done sew on your line making a horse shoe shape.

Now cut the inside of the horse shoe shape out. try staying about 1/4 of an inch away from your stitches. Should look something like this.

Okay. There is a way to turn this so we can move on to the next step. But it is hard to say how to do this. So I will tell you how to do it with pins. To start you need to have the horse shoe shape at the top like in the picture.

Bring the two side together and pin them near the edge. Should look like this.

Next flip it over. Should look like this.

Now same as before. Bring the two side together and pin them near the edge. Should look like this.

Okay. Turn it on its side and open it up to make it look like a set of paints.

Now very carefully turn them inside out. The red is now on the inside and the white is on the outside.

Starting on one side. Remove the pins and let it lay flat. Now measure from the bottom going up and place a mark at 9 an half inches. Then sew from the bottom to the mark. ( note: try to stay as close to the edge as you can.)

Now repeat on the other side. Remove the pins and let it lay flat. Now measure from the bottom going up and place a mark at 9 an half inches. Then sew from the bottom to the mark.

Now we want to make two pleats at the top. Just pin them and then sew a line at the top to lock them in place. We will now call this the back.

Now turn it over and make four pleats. Just pin them and then sew a line at the top to lock them in place. We will now call this the front.

Next turn  it inside out. (white on the inside and red on the outside) You can now hem the top if you like or use a serger to clean it up. Or you can just leave it be, It will not hurt the outfit if you do nothing.

Next. We want to cut some 3/8 red ribbon. Cut one to 19 inches long and the other to 14 inches long. ( Note: You may want to make both of them a bit longer. You can always cut them shorter later.) Mark the center of them both.

Now starting with the back (the side with 2 pleats) Using the shorter ribbon. Place it on the center of the top and sew a zig zag along the paints.

Next. turn it over and add the longer ribbon to the front ( the side with 4 pleats ) the same way as the back.

And there we have it. All done making a Miko Outfit. Now in part 3 of 3 I will show how to put the Miko Outfit on a dollfie dream.
