Making a Miko Outfit part 1 of 3

Okay. To start with we will need some supplies.
You will need
scissors for cutting cloth
some kind of marking pen/chalk to make marks
3 kinds of ribbon
- 1 that is white and 3/8 wide
- 1 that is red and 3/8 wide
- 1 that is red and 5/8 wide
a measuring tape
And a strait edge
Oh and don't forget to get some fabric 1 red and 1 white
(note: You do not have to use these colors if you don't want to. Just make sure that the ribbons match your cloth.)

All right lets start this project. There is no need for a pattern on this project. Everything is simple cuts.
Here is your cutting list
[color white]
2 parts 22 inches by 6 inches (arms)
2 parts 22 inches by 4 1/2 inches (body)
2 parts 14 inches by 15 inches (paints)
[color red]
2 parts 14 inches by 15 inches (paints)

Lets star with the 22 X 4 1/2 inch parts (body). You will need to put a mark at 11 inches on both pieces. This is our stopping point.

Now with the wrong side to wrong side. Sew from one end to the mark. ( note: you need to stay 1/8 of an inch from the edge. )

It should look like this with the right side facing up. It would be a good idea to iron it flat at this time.( Note: This will look wrong if it is going to be the outside of our outfit. But trust me. It will make senses.)

Now. Fold it in half. Good side to good side. ( Note: I would hit it with the iron once more. It helps make it flat and ease to work.) Now sew 3/8 of an inch from the same end and side you just sewed. And stop at your mark at 11 inches. (Note: this is called a French seam. It makes the inside back look nicer and we will need that flap later on.) We will call this the back

Next Step. With your cloth facing wrong side up. On the other end that we did not sew. Fold over 1/4 of an inch and sew from the end to the middle.

Repeat this on the other side. And we will call this the front.

Okay lets check our work. It should look like this with the good side facing out. Lets set that to the side for now.

Time to work on the 22 X 6 inches (arms) Fold 1/4 of an inch over wrong side to wrong side and sew. Do this on both parts. (note: you need to hem only one edge on the 22 inch side. the other is going to be sewed to the body)

Now with the hems to the outside and wrong side facing up, put a mark at 11 inches

Now with your tape/ruler at 3 inches on your mark. place 2 markers at 0 and 6. Should look like this. Now set this all to the side.

Okay lets bring back the body. Now with the wrong side facing up. No the back mark 11 inches from the end. Do this to both sides. theses are our center marks.

Okay its about time to join the arms to the body. Place the body with the wrong side facing up and the back to the bottom. Now place the arm parts wrong side facing up and the hems to the outside. Your center marks should be about lined up. If not line them up. Now starting from the right side ( looking at the picture) place good side to good side ans sew from mark to mark. ( that is the makes that we made at 0 and 6 )

Now repeat this on the other side.

Should look like this. now fold it in half. (good side to good side) It should look like a shirt.

Okay. See where my marking pen is. I want you to start here on this edge.

Line up your ends and sew to the armpit [good side to good side] ( the marking pen is pointing to where the stitches stooped earlier. Do not go any higher then this.)

Next sew where the marking pen is at doing the same thing. Line up your ends and sew to the armpit [good side to good side]

And now you can sew the bottom of the sleeve where the marking pen is. Once done repeat on the other side in the same order.

Now we can hem the bottom of our shirt.

Now we are at a point where we can add the ribbon to the collar. You will need the red ribbon that is 5/8 wide. And you can cut it to 22 inches long. (note: that is a little long but you can cut it to size after you sew it on)

when sewing the ribbon on it should be sewed to the wrong side and about 1/4 of an inch hanging over the edge.

Now flip the hole thing over where the back is facing up. Measure 4 1/2 inches down from the collar and place a mark on the flap in the middle of the back.

Go on and cut 2 pieces of white 3/8 wide ribbon to 7 inches long.

Sew one piece of the ribbons we just cut, to where we made our mark on the back flap.

Should look like this.

Now flip the hole thing over again. Now on the right side ( looking at the picture) Place a mark at 6 inches from the top. And sew the other white ribbon there.

It should look like this.

Now cut one more piece of white 3/8 ribbon to 16 inches long.

Okay. Were almost done. This is what every thing should look like. The only thing left to do is turn it right side out.

And we are done. This is the end of part 1 of 3 on making a Miko Outfit.
